Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP)

The Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation is a nationally recognized level of achievement within the field of human resources. The designation represents a commitment to a national standard of excellence, sets a benchmark for the practice of effective human resources, and emphasizes the strategic role of human resource management in business.
Certification Summary
Examination Papers & Topics
  • There are two national exams: the National Knowledge Exam® (NKE) and National Professional Practice Assessment® (NPPA.)
  • The National Knowledge Exam (NKE) assesses one’s understanding of the Required Professional Capabilities (RPCs®) as they relate to academic knowledge. Academic knowledge refers to basic facts, policies, practices, methods, legislation, etc.
  • The National Professional Practice Assessment (NPPA) assesses one’s understanding of the RPCs as they relate to experiential knowledge. Experiential knowledge is implicit and much more difficult to quantify or describe effectively.
Examination Style
  • The NKE consists of 150 multiple choice questions to be solved in 3 hours. 
  • The NPPA consists of 45 scenarios based on “critical incidents” experienced by real world HR professionals, including five scenarios which have been added to each exam to allow the CCHRA to pre-test new questions. The NPPA exam should be finished in 3 hours
Examination Passing Score

The passing grade for the NKE & NPPA is 70 %.

Examination & Results Dates
  • Normally, the NKE and NPPA are held the first Saturday in May and October of each year.
  • Exams results released after two months from the examination dates.
